CUSTOM PAINTING TERMS
and SCHEDULE

This information is dated March 10, 2008 and supersedes all others!

Have you been looking for someone to paint that COOL new resin you just bought?     Or one of the other unpainted resins that you have purchased and stored over the last few years until you could find "just the right Artist" to bring them to life?

You have come to the right place!

I am Chris Nandell, and I create HEIRLOOM QUALITY model horses, painted in the time-honored medium trusted by Master Painters for centuries - durable glowing OILS!     I am a Full-Time, Professional Artist and in 2008, I will be celebrating FORTY-ONE YEARS in this business!     Over the years, I have created many, many Local, Regional and (NAN) National Live Show Champions.     As a matter of fact, many of the pieces I created in the 1980's are STILL being shown and are STILL winning for their proud owners!     I LOVE what I do and I have worked hard to achieve the outstanding reputation for enduring quality and customer satisfaction that people know and trust!

I can complete most orders in 7 - 10 days!     Barring accident, illness, paint malfunction (not drying in a normal manner), or other catastrophic or unforeseen circumstances, I should be able to begin each order on the first day of your painting slot. Most orders will be completed and will be ready to ship to customers the following week.     (**Certain color pattern exceptions to this are noted in the color pricing section below.)

I specialize in unparalleled quality, superior customer service and quick delivery of your order.
NO MORE waiting months or YEARS for a custom order!

In the interest of mutual understanding between myself and my customers, I have listed below just about everything I can think of that is relavant to placing a custom painting order with me.     I want you to know what to expect from me (as the Artist), and what I expect from you (the customer).     If, after reading this, you have ANY further questions or if I have not made a particular point clear, please don't hesitate to contact me by eMail or telephone and I will be happy to clairify the information.

THANK YOU in advance for your order and for your interest in my work!

ALL orders are bound by the
terms and conditions on this page!

***NO EXCEPTIONS!***
If you are unable to work within these terms and conditions,
then you need to find another artist to work with!

**ALL ORDERS ARE ACCEPTED ON THE ASSUMPTION
THAT THE CUSTOMER HAS READ AND AGREED TO ALL
TERMS AND CONDITIONS LISTED ON THIS WEB PAGE!**

~ I specialize in unparalleled quality, superior customer service and quick delivery of your order.
NO MORE waiting months or YEARS for a custom order!

~ All orders are accepted on a "first come - first served" basis.     However, in the event that two parties inquire about the same painting slot, priority will be given to established customers and group list members.

~ All orders (ie: type of piece, color and markings), need to be approved at the time your painting slot is booked and BEFORE the piece is shipped to me.

~ $50.00 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED to book a Painting Slot!!!     NO EXCEPTIONS!     Painting slots are NOT transferable to a third party!

~ I will accept pieces that are made of Resin, Plastic or Customized Resin or Plastic.     I will not accept anything made of metal, china, ceramic, plaster or pottery and no pieces which involve molded on tack, riders, or other attachments.     (Bases are fine, but will incur an additional charge as noted below.     Ribbons and other mane and tail decorations are acceptable.)

~ I reserve the right to decline pieces that are too heavy for me to hold comfortably.     These include: BHR resins, specific Artist resins, and ANY Traditional sized, solid-cast Draft horses or over-sized Traditional pieces that are solid cast.     (If you are unsure, please ask!)

~ I reserve the right to decline pieces or colors that I feel would not be a good reflection of my painting skills.     (Extremely rough or poorly rendered sculptures or poorly rendered remakes.     If you are unsure, please ask!)

~ I normally only do prep work, on my own line of original sculptures.     Traditional sized pieces - $50.00, Trad. Foals or Classic - $30.00.     (This is in addition the selling price of the sculpture!     Prepping includes seams sanded, divots filled and sprayed with **KRYLON Sandable (Red) Automotive Primer***)    To see the pieces available in my line, please click here:
Availaible Resin Sculptures

~ ALL other pieces MUST arrive prepped for painting! (That means; seams sanded, divots filled, (Artist Resins also must be scrubbed with Ajax or Comet to remove mold release) and sprayed with **KRYLON Sandable (Red) Automotive Primer***.     If you cannot find the right primer, I will spray it for you (at no charge) when it arrives here, but ALL other prep work must be done!).     Orders received un-prepped or inadequately prepped will be returned or charged $75.00 for Traditionals and $60.00 for Trad. Foals/Classics if I have time to do the work.     NO EXCEPTIONS!

~ALL PIECES MUST ARRIVE HERE IN TIME FOR ME TO BEGIN ON THE START DATE! (That would be the SATURDAY *before* the start date.) AND PAYMENT IN FULL MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE MONDAY MORNING OF THE PAINTING SLOT WEEK!!!     (Orders that I need to do the prep work on must arrive here one week in advance of the start date.)     Orders not recieved by the start time, or without full payment, will be considered as "no-show" and will either be delayed, dropped from the list, (deposit will be retained), or put into another available painting slot at my descretion.     I will NOT start the job until payment in full is received!     NO EXCEPTIONS!

~ I do not hair models (though I will be happy to paint one that is "hair prepped").

~I cannot paint a piece that is unsteady!     If the piece needs a base, I will be happy to make one for it out of thin Basswood.     Piece will be permanently attached (epoxied) to it and it will be finished with a sand texture and painted a natural earth or sawdust color.     Cost for "Traditional" sized pieces - $75.00.     "Traditonal" foal or "Classic" sized pieces - $50.00.     If the piece comes on a base there is a $25.00 charge for painting simple bases and $50.00 for those more detailed with lanscaping details, etc.

~ I will do gender modification (partial or complete removal of male genetalia), for $25.00.     I am not available to scupt or customize pieces in any other way.

~ I will be happy to add metal shoes to your model for $75.00.     (Customer must supply the shoes.)     Shoes will be realistically shaped to fit the hooves, and nail heads will be added to hoof walls as needed.

~ TRADES - I do occasionally accept trades for other Artist Resins or LSQ Tack.         If you have something that you are interested in trading, please ask!

~ I cannot predict the future!     And for that reason, I reserve the right to cancel any order at any time!     Should *I* need to cancel an order, deposit will be returned to customer immediately, or I will reschedule customer in the earliest time slot available.

~ I understand that sometimes the "unexpected" happens, but please don't just "disappear" on me!     In the event that customer must cancel their order, (before it is shipped to me), I will apply the deposit to another painting slot (within six months).     Please send me an email or give me a call as soon as you can and we'll get your order rescheduled.

~ I reserve the right to use photos of your finished piece for advertising or promotion at any time in the future.

~ Customer acknowledges that there is always a measure of risk when sending an irreplaceable item for painting and will not hold the Artist responsible for any damage caused by Post Office, fire, weather or "Act of God".     Artist will make every reasonable attempt to ensure that bodies sent for painting will stored and handled safely.     If the piece should incur damage while in the artists' possession, artist agrees to repair the piece at no charge.     The artists' sole responsibility is for said repairs and not replacement of the body.

~ I am NOT responsible for unseen defects in the materials that any piece is produced in!     Occasisionally resin cast pieces may have air bubbles in the legs, ears manes or tails (that I cannot see), that can weaken the piece and lead to breakage.     Or the piece may leech resin at the "pour hole", along seam lines and in any areas that have been significantly altered, causing a shiny, sticky surface which appears a few days to a week AFTER the piece has been completely painted and sealed.     These are defects in the material the piece is made of and not something that I can predict or control!    (A similar condition also occurs from time-to-time, (sometimes over the entire surface), on mass produced plastic pieces and again is a defect in the material that I cannot predict or control!     In either case, the affected areas DO eventually "dry", but may be sightly discolored and more glossy than the surrounding surface.

~ Freshly painted pieces MUST be opened immediately upon receipt and need to be stored on a shelf in a climate-controlled environment.     DO NOT store in any kind of paper, bubble wrap or in a closed container for extended periods of time and avoid exposure to excessive heat.     Failure to do so can result in damage to the paint work and will NOT be warrantied by the Artist.

~ The pieces I create are FINE ART and should be treated as such!

~ Barring accident, illness, paint malfunction (not drying in a normal manner), or other catastrophic or unforeseen circumstances, I should be able to begin each order on Monday, complete it during the week, and ship it back to you the following week.     WEDNESDAY is my normal shipping day - once a week.     (**Certain color pattern exceptions to this are noted in the color pricing below.)

Defining Your Order

I want to make clear to all of my customers the differences between a
"Custom" painting order and a "Portrait" painting order.

~ CUSTOM - is when you say (for example), "I would like this piece to be a bay with a couple of socks", etc.     You can either describe the color to me and/or you can send a couple of color examples to show me.     You can be fairly specific with markings, or you can leave them up to me.     But if you send photos and they must match exactly, I consider it a "Portrait" order.

~ PORTRAIT - is when you say it MUST be "this exact shade and have these exact markings".     Good color photos of the subject from all sides showing size, shape and placement of all markings must be sent with the piece to be painted.     (Keeping in mind that conformational and lighting conditions between what is sent to me for reference and the piece I have to work with will never be exact, I will match the photos submitted as closely as I possibly can, but I do NOT guarantee "photo accuracy".)     SORRY, I will not accept Dapple or Flea-Bitten Grey, Appaloosa, extreme Pinto or other complex patterned colors for Portrait orders.

I will eMail you photos of your piece for approval as soon as the piece is completed!

Pricing Information:
Sorry, I cannot accept time payments or partial payments for Custom Painting Services!

NOTE: There are a few colors I absolutely will not accept as CM orders due to their complexity and personal preference. This list includes extremely complex dappled colors (greys or silvers), leopard or complex semi-leopard appaloosas, extreme sabinos, anything brindled or black champagne. (There may be other colors OR particular patterns, so BE SURE to tell me what you have in mind at the time you reserve your slot.)

**Dapple Greys - (most shades) - $500.00

NOTES: 1 - For pieces that are substantially LARGER than regular Traditional Scale, add $75.00 to each of the above prices.     (If you are unsure, please ask!).     2 - A one-hour surcharge for detailing molded on braids, gaited horse hooves & pads and open mouths/teeth. (All sizes.)

TRADITIONAL FOALS - (1/9th scale) AND CLASSICS - (1/12th scale)
Solid Colors (incuding Roan) - $250.00
Solid Colors with light dappling & Flea-Bitten Greys - $300.00
Dappled solid colors - $350.00

(Price quoted is for *most* patterns. Extremely complex white markings involving a lot of "single-hair mapping" or which are extremely intricate will be charged by the hourly rate.)
Dapple Greys - (most shades) - $400.00

*** I DO NOT ACCEPT PIECES SMALLER THAN CLASSIC SCALE ***

** Depending on the pattern, or the extent of color shading, some colors may exceed the one-week time frame.     (Especially those that are dappled or have a lot of extensive white markings.)     I will advise you if I feel that this may be the case.     (No order should ever take longer than 3 weeks!)

~ Solid colors include average markings: 1 - 4 socks and face markings like: star, stripe, blaze, snip etc.     (Extensive white markings may incur additional cost.     I will advise you if this is the case.)

~ I do not charge extra for Blue or parti-colored eyes!

~ All pieces are hand-painted in oils with an acrylic paint mixture used for white markings and details, such as the eyes, hooves, nostrils, chestnuts etc.     Ear tips, tail tips, nostril rims and corners of the mouth get an extra coat of protectant to better withstand the rigors of showing with tack.     Each piece is then sealed with a durable acrylic matte sealer.     Manes and tails are often accented with a coat of damar varnish for added ralism and shine.

~ PORTRAIT ORDERS - add $100.00 to the price listed for sizes and colors above.    Please note: The conformation of the sculpture you send for painting is usually different than the conformation of the horse in the photo references sent.     These differences can make markings appear slightly different on the sculpture.     I will match the color and markings to the very best of my ability but I do NOT guarantee "Photographic accuracy".

~ BASES - If I need to make the piece a base the cost is $75.00 for Traditional sized pieces and $50.00 for Tradtional size foals or Classic sized pieces. (This includes texturing and painting.)    If the piece comes on a base there is a $25.00 charge for painting simple bases and $50.00 for those more detailed with lanscaping details, etc.

~ REPAIR WORK - I always accept repair work for pieces I have created!    I also do many repairs on other pieces including broken legs, broken/missing ears, or tails and minor touch-ups of paint work.    These prices are determined on an individual basis and pieces are worked into my schedule as soon as possible.     Please contact me for further information at the eMail address or telephone number listed below.
